I went to Tim Hortons today, to grab a coffee. And on my out, the next street over, is a old age community home. It is a large bright white home, with lots of greenery, plants and flowers. The sun seems to just shine on this community living centre; when you pass it, you can’t help but notice it. And on the right hand side of the fresh, healthy, green grass is a large, wooden, beautiful gazebo.
Once or twice before, I have driven by the centre, but no one was in the gazebo. But today, there was a small goup of elderly people, I’d say about 5-6 people in the gazebo, drinking tea and chatting. They seemed to be dressed quite nice too. The ladies were wearing light floral blouses with collars, cotton coloured shorts, and had nicely done hair. I think one of the ladies was wearing a string of pearls around her neck as well.
The men had on their nice golf shirts or light dress shirts, with shorts or slacks and of course their hair was combed nicely to the side. Additionally, I saw a few watches on the wrists of the men.
They seemed to be having such an enjoyable time in this gazebo, I really wanted to be in there with them. As they drank their tea and ate some sort of ordurves, I saw them laughing, talking and touching each other is a joking kind of way. It seemed that one of the men said some sort of sarcastic remark to one of the women, so she got up and slapped him on the arm, completely grinning from ear to ear.
I couldnt help but wonder, that maybe this setting and atmosphere of the wooden gazebo was enlightening their time together. I mean, they had a nice place to sit in the warm weather, while still being lightly shaded by parts of the covering gazebo. It seemed so easy for them out there. It seemed like such a good time. Although they were “old” they appared to be a young and free as children.
Although the old age home looks fresh and bright, as I said in the beginning, I think I assumed that the people inside would not be as fresh and bright. I pictured them to have no smiles, and be a little unkept, or at least not as well kept as they appeared. It looked like they had planned a nice day in the sun, in the gazebo, to drink tea, and have a good time with old friends. It looked like a situation that had been planned for weeks, even months.
I was happy to have witnessed this good time! And to think, the road sign read 40 kilometers an hour, so driving 40 kilometers an hour I saw all of this within about 6 seconds. Can you imagine what I would have saw if I was walking by, or if I stopped by to say hello.
